In 1927 Samuel Offerman and his son Sidney started manufacturing Amsterdam paint. They quickly developed a reputation for making quality products at competitive prices for the Architectural market.

In the Nineteen Forties and Fifties Amsterdam expanded its line supplying specification coatings for structural steel. Amsterdam worked closely with Governmental agencies and raw material suppliers, developing many new sophisticated coatings, concentrating on corrosion resistance.

In a joint project with ALCOA, we developed brush and roller applied colored aluminum coatings for the New York City Transit Authority. With National Lead industries, we developed formulas that a re the standard in the industry for Basic Lead Silico Chromate Systems. With Union Carbide we developed A-COUSTEX, a textured Acoustical Coating. A-COUSTEX is a ready mixed, asbestos free, rust inhibiting, aggregated coating for plaster, wallboard and concrete. It is made for interior and exterior in colors from pure white to deep tones.

As coating technology grew, so did we. In 1969 Amsterdam became a division of Grow Chemical Corporation, a conglomerate including such companies as Devoe & Reynolds Co., Inc., Martin Varnish Co., Pontiac Coatings and National Aersol Products, Co.
On May 1, 1978 Amsterdam was purchased by Stephen Offerman. The management, Personnel, business philosophies remain the same.

Our policy of service, available technical expertise and dedication to quality has enabled Amsterdam to gain recognition and acceptance without extensive advertising, marketing programs and sales campaigns.

Amsterdam now manufacturers a full line of architectural, industrial maintenance and general purpose paints for the trade sales market as well as for Federal, State and City Government agencies. We have developed a wide range of products to meet changing needs. Our Fibre-Trap (asbestos encapsulant), underwater epoxies, anti graffiti coatings and epoxy fillers, solve special requirements.

Amsterdam's DIAMONITE, a two component waterborne polyamide epoxy was chosen for use on the Statue of Liberty. Our Acrabond was the choice for the exterior of Yankee Stadium.

Amsterdam's CHEMRANE moisture cured urethanes help meet the chemical and solvent resistance needs of industry. CHEMRANE has excellent anti graffiti properties.

Bridges from Canada to Florida are protected with Amsterdam's Rust inhibitive products. Our specialized coatings are in Iceland and the Azores, underwater and outer space.
